Commissioner Gary Peppin was elected to serve as County Commissioner for the 9th District in 2020. He graduated from Davison High School in 1974 and graduated from Mott Community College in 1976, then graduated from Michigan State University in 1980, with a Bachelors degree in Economics.
Following college, he worked at General motors and did a management internship in Ohio, and returned in 1982 to specialize in car sales. He worked first at the Frank McNally Chevrolet/Buick dealership as a business manager, then as the New Car GMC Manager at Mike Young Buick/ GMC dealership until his retirement in 2018.
Commissioner Peppin served as a member of Davison City Council from 2011 to 2016 and was involved in efforts to save the water department from bankruptcy. He also helped create a capital improvement plan and was co-chair of the Main Street widening and modernization project for downtown Davison. During his City Council tenure, he served on Finance and Policy Committees, and worked with other municipalities as a member of the Genesee County Small Cities and Villages Association, which he also chaired, 2015-2016.
Commissioner Peppin is a long-time member of St. John’s parish and has served in many capacities there. Some were individual service such as reader and Eucharistic Minister Captain, and some were committee work, such as Sports Council, Evangelization Committee and Building Committee. He chaired the Building Committee during three major projects: Family Center, Mausoleum, and Gathering Space expansion.
Since retirement, he’s also served in the Big Brother Program, and as a mentor and coach at Pierce Elementary. He has also volunteered for North Flint Soup Kitchen and Catholic Charities.
His household includes Lori, his wife of 38 years, and furry family members Chewy and Oliver. His grown children are Kyle Peppin and Kara DeRade, both DHS alums as well. He also has a granddaughter, Annie.
