ELIGIBLE VETERANS:

The Soldiers Relief Commission will only assist veterans who have at least one day of active duty during a war time era and a 180 days of active duty during a war time era for the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund, or have received an Expeditionary Medal.

“Active Duty” means full time duty in the Armed Forces other than active duty that is exclusively for training purposes. The SRC will not assist veterans who were in the Reserves, unless they were activated during a war time era. The SRC will not accept applications from veterans whose discharge states: DISHONORABLE, LESS THAN HONORABLE, UNDER OTHER THAN HONORABLE or OTHER THAN HONORABLE.

Deadline for all paperwork and applications is 11:00 a.m. on the day prior to the meeting.  Paperwork and applications received after 11:00 a.m. on the day prior to a meeting will be submitted to the next regular scheduled meeting.
 

ALL APPLICATIONS REQUIRE:

            *Veterans DD214
            *Picture I.D.
            *If married – copy of Marriage License
            *If minor children – Birth certificates (step-children included)
            *If divorced/separated with custody of children:
                        - Custody Papers
                        - Friend of the Court statement regarding child support

*All household income for the past 30 days for all adults (18 yrs. And older):  (Wages, unemployment, Social Security, SSI, SSD, V.A. income, retirement, workman’s compensation, disability, child support, D.H.S. income, Bridge Card, educational benefits, etc)

 

*If no income for the past 30 day period for any adult household member (18 yrs and older), those members must present the following:
            - Doctor’s statement verifying disability or
            - Verification from employment agency as proof of being signed up and actively seeking work.  Print-out sheet showing dates of visits.

 

*All paid receipts for monies spent during the past 30-day period.  Grocery and gas receipts not required.  Acceptable receipts consist of copies of money orders, cancelled checks, duplicate checks or anything that is date stamped.  HAND WRITTEN RECEIPTS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

            Consumers Energy:
                        *Must have SHUT-OFF NOTICE.
                        *D.H.S., Salvation Army and GCCARD Decision letters.
 

            Water Bill:
                        *Must have a SHUT-OFF NOTICE.
                        *D.H.S., Salvation Army, and GCCARD Decision letters.
 

            Fuel Oil or Propane:
                        *Two estimates.
                        *Must not exceed 100 gallons.

 

FOOD:
*Bridge Card amount.
*D.H.S. DECISION LETTER.

 

CLOTHING:
*Estimate from KMart listing individual items of clothing and prices.  Must have KMart stamp on the estimate.

 

HOUSING:
Rent: (Existing)
*Must have one of the following:  Notice to Quit, Demand for Possession, Eviction, Summons and Complaint or Judgment.
*Applicant must have the property owner fill out a Rental Information Request.
*If property is not an apartment complex, a current property tax statement in the owner’s name must be attached.
*D.H.S. Decision letter.
 

Rent:  (1st Month)
*Applicant must have the property owner fill out a Rental Information Request.
*If property is not an apartment complex, a current property tax statement in the owner’s name must be attached.
 

Security Deposit:
*Applicant must have apartment complex manager or property owner fill out a Rental Security Deposit Information Request.
*If property is not an apartment complex, a current property tax statement in the owner’s name must be attached.
 

Mortgage:
*Applicant must provide name of Mortgage Company or Land Contract Holder Representative, the phone number, fax number and the account number.
*Last mortgage statement.
 

Taxes:
*Must have property tax statement from the Genesee County Treasurer’s Office.
*D.H.S., GCCARD and other agencies decision letter.
*Each application has to have parcel number with residence & PRE (Principle Residence Exemption) on it. **NO EMPTY LOTS** MUST BE PRIMARY RESIDENTIAL PARCEL.
 

Emergency Needs: (hot water heater, stove, refrigerator, etc.)
*Must have two estimates.  If for stove or refrigerator, must be from Goodwill or Salvation Army or Just Like New Appliances.
*A denial letter from Community Development, Flint NIPP, D.H.S, GCCARD for major home repairs (roof, furnaces, etc.)
 

Furniture:
*Must have an estimate from Goodwill or Salvation Army.

 

TRANSPORTATION:
 

To a V.A. Medical Facility:
*Must have verification of scheduled appointment to a V.A. medical facility.
 

To Work:
*Must have verification of employment or job interview on letterhead.

 

AUTOMOBILE:
 

Payments:
*Title or Registration to the vehicle.
*Proof of current insurance on vehicle.
*Statement from finance company confirming monthly payment amount, amount delinquent, due date and any late fees or miscellaneous charges that are due.
 

Insurance:
*Title or Registration to the vehicle.
*Proof of current insurance on vehicle.
*Statement from insurance company confirming monthly payment amount, amount delinquent, due date and late fees or miscellaneous charges that are due.
 

Repairs:
*Title or Registration to the vehicle.
*Proof of current insurance on vehicle.
*Three estimates from a licensed and reputable auto repair shop, Two estimates if one is from Kearsley Auto Repair (810) 736-2993 or Muffler Man (810) 742-9430.

*Vehicle cannot be older than 10 years.
*SRC may pay for repairs up to 30% of the Kelly Blue Book wholesale value.

 

MEDICAL AND DENTAL:
           

Hearing Aides:
*Two estimates.
 
Glasses:
*Two estimates (one from veteran’s choice of vision centers and one from Wal-Mart Vision Center on Corunna Rd.).  No tints or progressive lenses.
 

Dental:
*Must have two estimates from dentist and/or clinic.  If no estimate, may do application to receive a dental estimate.
*D.H.S. decision letter.
 

Wheel Chair Ramp:
*Must have confirmation from United Way or Disability Network that they will assist with the labor.
*Must have two estimates for building materials.

ROBBERY
*SRC WILL NOT accept any applications made as a result of a robbery or theft.

PRIVATE DEBTS
*SRC WILL NOT accept applications for ANY private debts.

THREATS
A. If a veteran, spouse or dependent child threatens any employee of the Department of Veterans Services and they make an application for Soldiers Relief Commission, they must appear before the Soldiers Relief Commission at the scheduled meetings where a decision on their application will be made.

B. Per the Soldiers Relief Commission Committee, any applicatnt that displays inappropriate behavior or is threatening to any employee of the Department of Veterans Services will and must have a Sheriff's Deputy present during the application process for all future applications.
