Arrears Management Program (AMP)
A new program has been developed by the Michigan Office of Child Support that may allow for a discharge of some or all of the child support arrears owed to the State of Michigan. Cases in which the parties in the child support case are now married may be eligible for discharge of arrears owed to the State of Michigan, as well as child support payers who are experiencing extreme financial difficulty. To see if you qualify for the new Arrears Management Program, contact your caseworker, or download and complete form DHS-681 and return it to the Friend of the Court.
If you have the ability the pay part of the arrears owed to the State of Michigan but cannot pay the entire balance, you may be eligible for the Lump-Sum Payment option where the State of Michigan will “match” dollar for dollar a voluntary lump sum payment. A minimum payment of $1,000 is required under this program. To determine if you are eligible for the Lump-Sum Payment option, download and complete form DHS-682 and return it to the Friend of the Court.
