Commissioner John W Northrup District 4
John W. Northrup took his seat as Fourth District County Commissioner in January 1997, and he has continued to serve since then.
During his tenure on the Board, Commissioner Northrup has sat on every standing committee, and has served as Chairperson of the Governmental Operations and Finance Committees. He also served as the Board representative on the 9-1-1 Consortium Board, and he is a member and has served as Chairperson of the MTA (Mass Transportation Authority). He is now Chairperson of the Genesee County Board of Health and of the Genesee County Retirement Commission.
Prior to his election to the County Board, Commissioner Northrup served the residents of the City of Flint on the Flint City Council for 26 years under both the Council Manager and strong Mayor forms of government in Flint. He saw service as President and Vice President of the Council during his long tenure.
Commissioner Northrup is a graduate of Grand Blanc Community High School, earned an Associate's Degree from C.S. Mott Community College, and a Bachelor's in Arts from University of Michigan-Flint.
John and Lucy Morrissey Northrup have 8 children and 17 grandchildren while an addition to the family is imminent.
